As of Monday morning, it has been confirmed that over 33,000 people have been found dead as a result of the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria last week.

With thousands of others being found injured, the death toll is still expected to rise in the coming days.

The United Nations has even said that it expects the current death toll to double.

Regardless, the search and rescue operations are still underway, with some victims even being pulled out alive after days buried in the rubble.

In Turkey, justice officials are currently investigating contractors that were involved in alleged illegalities with buildings that ended up collapsing after the quake.

Meanwhile, the Turkish embassy in Malta has recently called for people to stop donating clothes and food and instead asked for items like winter tents, gas heaters, blankets (new and unused), camping cots, camping mats for tents and mobile toilets, and shower cabins.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Turkish city of Gaziantep on 6th February, causing devastating effects across both Turkey and Syria.
