This is the second consecutive night of heavy bombing and it comes as US President Donald Trump visits the Middle East, including Gulf states but not Israel.
There were hopes that Trump’s visit and a recent hostage release would facilitate a ceasefire or reopen borders for aid as the enclave goes into its third month without food.
An Associated Press cameraman in Khan Younis counted 10 airstrikes on the city overnight and witnessed multiple bodies taken to the morgue in the city’s Nasser Hospital.
The dead included a journalist working for Qatari television network Al Araby TV, the network announced on social media, saying Hasan Samour had been killed along with 11 members of his family in one of the strikes in Khan Younis.
Airstrikes overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday killed 70 people, including almost two dozen children, in northern and southern Gaza.
As part of a vow to expand the military campaign in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised an escalation of force in Gaza to “destroy Hamas” earlier this week.
Almost the whole of Gaza’s population has been displaced since 7th October 2023. Sobering numbers released by BBC show that 1.9 million people have been displaced from their homes – this is 90% of Gaza’s population.
Al Jazeera’s live death toll counter shows that 62,614 people have been killed since Israel began its assault on Gaza – most of these people were innocent civilians.
