Pope Francis is set to be discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on 23rd March, following a steady recovery from bilateral pneumonia and an acute respiratory infection.

According to Dr Sergio Alfieri, the Pope’s condition has improved significantly since his admission on 14th February, and the prognosis has now been lifted.

The 88-year-old Pontiff will return to his Vatican residence at Casa Santa Marta after blessing the faithful from a hospital window during Sunday’s Angelus at noon.

Though his pneumonia has been treated, he will continue recovering with two months of rest and medical care.

Doctors confirmed that while the Pope experienced two critical episodes during his hospital stay, he remained conscious and was never intubated.

Pope Francis is reportedly eager to return home and resume work gradually as his health allows.
