Demonstrators showed up outside of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s door protesting the state’s failures in combatting the October 7th attacks as well as its handling of the captivity crisis.

Thousands took to the streets in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, including outside the residence of Netanyahu, waving Israeli blue and white flags while chanting “Jail now” and “Bring them home”.

These protests coincided with a poll showing that more than three-quarters of Israelis believe that Netanyahu should resign, displaying the growing fervency of the public’s frustration at their political and security leaders.

In Tel Aviv thousands of angry and sorrowful citizens amassed, calling for the government to “turn every stone” to bring abductees back to Israel. Thousands held up flags, photographs of their loved ones, and posters with slogans like “Israel can’t wait, get him out NOW” – referring to hostages in Gaza.

Many families of the Hamas captives held in Gaza are growing more critical of the government’s response.

On Saturday, a poll for Israel’s Channel 13 Television found 76% of Israelis thought Netanyahu, now serving a record sixth term as prime minister, should resign and 64 percent said the country should hold an election immediately after the war.

When asked who is most at fault for the attack, 44% of respondents blamed Netanyahu, while 33% blamed the military chief of staff and senior Israeli Defence Force officials and 5% blamed the defence minister, according to Al Jazeera.

Netanyahu has been a polarising figure since before the war. He is fighting corruption charges, which he denies, and progressed plans to limit the powers of the judiciary in Israel which ignited major protests.
