Strongest Earthquake To Hit Turkey In 100 Years Leaves Almost 5,000 People Dead

More than 4,700 people have so far been found dead in the wake of the strongest earthquake to hit Turkey and Syria in the last 100 years.
Until now, hundreds are still buried in the rubble, with some being found frozen to death due to the freezing temperatures.
Turkey’s disaster agency has reported 3,381 dead in the country, while in Syria, 733 have been found dead within rebel-held areas and 656 within government-controlled regions.
On Monday, the Turkey-Syria border was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, followed by several aftershocks. Mere hours later, it was hit by another 7.5 magnitude tremor.
According to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency, the quake’s epicentre was situated in the town of Pazarcik in the province of Kahramanmaras.
Overnight, another 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the country, continuing to destroy thousands of buildings.
Members from Malta’s Search and Rescue Team were deployed in Turkey and Syria last night to aid in the devastating situation.
