‘Their Bravery Symbolised Resilience’: Metsola Commemorates 80 Years Since Warsaw Uprising
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has taken to social media with a powerful image together with Polish MEPs to commemorate the lives lost in the Warsaw Uprising 80 years ago, which began on 1st August 1944.
“80 years from the Warsaw Uprising, we pay tribute to the defeated, yet unbeaten,” she stated on social media.
The Warsaw Uprising began in the Second World War, in which the Polish resistance attempted to free the city from German occupation. Thousands lost their lives as a result.
“Their determination signified resistance. Their bravery symbolised resilience. Their struggle for freedom is testament of Europe’s enduring spirit,” Metsola added.
“We honour them. They are an inspiration.”
