British Prime Minister Theresa May has called a general election on June 8th, citing “division” within Westminster as the reason.

Speaking outside No. 10, Downing Street this afternoon, May said Brexit was a crucial juncture for the country and it required unity.

“If we do not hold a general election now (the Opposition’s) game playing will continue and our negotiations will reach their most difficult stage… Division will risk our ability to make a success of Brexit and cause damaging instability,” she said.

“We need a general election and we need it now. We have a one off chance to get this done while the EU agrees its negotiating position,” she added, saying she needed votes to help her get the job done.
