Ukraine Intercepts 71 Russian Drones In ‘Biggest Attack’ On Kyiv
Ukraine was able to intercept 71 of the Iranian-made drones launched by Russia in what has been described as the biggest attack against Kyiv since the start of the invasion.
Russian attacks were launched in the early hours of this morning across six regions in Ukraine.
“A total of nearly 75 Shahed drones were launched from two directions – Primorsko-Akhtarsk and the Kursk region, Russia. The primary target was the city of Kyiv,” said Ukraine’s Air Force in a Telegram post, describing the attack as a “record number” of drones.
Ukrainian air defences were able to down 71 of the drones with the majority of drones intercepted in the Kyiv region.
“Russia launched around 70 ‘Shahed’ drones at Ukraine precisely on the eve of the Holodomor genocide commemoration day. Russia’s leadership appears to be proud of its ability to kill people,” Ukrainian President Vlodomyr Zelenskiy wrote on social media.
“Our warriors shot down the majority of the drones, but not all of them. We keep working to strengthen our air defense and unite the world in the fight against Russian terror. The terrorist state must be defeated and held accountable for its actions.”
Anti-aircraft missile troops, tactical aviation, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare units were all involved in repelling the air attack, the Air Force explained. A Kh-95 guided missile was also destroyed in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
