Watch: 3,500 Drones Light Up The Sky Over The Vatican City

The sky above St Peter’s Square lit up for a spectacle unlike any in its centuries of history on Saturday night, as tens of thousands gathered for Grace for the World, a concert marking the close of the third World Meeting on Human Fraternity.
The evening opened with a breathtaking display of symbolism, 3,500 drones filled the Roman sky, tracing radiant images above the basilica. Against the backdrop of Michelangelo’s dome and Bernini’s colonnade, the drones illuminated the face of Pope Francis, the outstretched hands from the Creation of Adam, a soaring dove of peace, and Michelangelo’s Pietà.
For the Vatican, it was a first, a marriage of sacred tradition and cutting-edge technology that drew reverent silence before erupting into applause.
The images unfolded to the sound of a stirring duet: Andrea Bocelli, the world-renowned tenor, and American singer Teddy Swims joined voices for Amazing Grace. Their harmonies rose above the hushed square, mingling with the hum of the drones and creating an atmosphere of awe.
The icon of Salus Populi Romani, venerated in the Basilica of St Mary Major and deeply cherished by Pope Francis, was projected, adding a moment of prayerful reflection.
The concert transformed St Peter’s Square into an open-air arena for the first time in history, sending a message of peace, dialogue, and unity across borders. The event concluded a two-day gathering that brought together 500 participants, Nobel laureates, academics, cultural leaders, and experts in technology and the environment, for 15 dialogue panels on themes ranging from global peace to ecological care and the future of humanity.
