Watch: From AI Pilots To Clapping On Planes – Check Out Lovin’s Full Interview With Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary

Lovin Malta had the pleasure to sit down with Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary to discuss everything from the possibility of having AI pilots to the safety of Boeing aircrafts and more.
Ryanair single-handedly changed the course of low-budget flying in Europe. It was able to turn normal cities into touristic destinations, bolstering jobs and economies through low-cost travel.
However, that does not mean the company has been void of controversy. It has been an avid critic of aviation tax intended to tackle climate change, and O’Leary himself was pied by environmental protestors while he was protesting EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
During the interview, O’Leary was solid in his opinion that aviation tax will do “nothing in the fight against climate change” but new technology that is currently being explored will.
The fact that Ryanair’s fleet is mostly comprised of Boeing aircraft is another point of contention, considering an emergency door flew off a Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft in the United States and an investigation revealed severe shortcomings.
However, O’Leary assured the safety and due diligence done both by Boeing and Ryanair is the reason the airline company hasn’t had an accident in 40 years.
Ryanair’s growth in popularity is partly responsible for its incredible social media presence managed by a team of 40 to 50 people under the age of 25. However, O’Leary admitted that he doesn’t understand their posts, calling it all “utter rubbish”.
Lovin Malta further delved into whether the future of Ryanair will involve AI pilots and into O’Leary’s his personal opinion on people who clap on flights – because who isn’t curious about that?
