Watch: Ħamrun’s San Gejtanu Becomes Malta’s First And Only Statue Inside Vatican’s St Peter’s Basilica

Faithful followers of Ħamrun’s San Gejtanu have another reason to be proud of their feast, this time thanks to a historic achievement which put their statue right inside the Vatican!

Over the weekend, the “vara” of St Cajetan became the first and only Maltese statue to enter St Peter’s Basilica, with Grupp Armar San Gejtanu Ħamrun posted a number of Reels of its departure from Malta and arrival in Vatican City.

A pilgrimage saw the statue being moved through the streets of Rome as part of the the celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Theatine Order, an order established by St. Cajetan himself.

On Saturday 14th September, the anniversary was marked by a special commemoration in the Italian capital, with Malta’s very own representatives taking part in the celebrations of the Italian Catholic priest and reformer.
