Watch: King Charles Officially Crowned At Westminster Abbey After Anti-Monarchy Protestors Arrested
King Charles III has been officially crowned as the king of the United Kingdom in Westminster Abbey this Saturday afternoon.
The coronation ceremony came after a vast number of anti-monarchy protestors were arrested as they staged a protest prior to the historic event.
The King was crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who placed the 360-year-old crown on the Monarch’s head before saying “God save the King”.
Here’s the exact moment Charles was crowned with St Edward’s Crown, which was made in 1661 and will be worn by him for the first and only time today and for the next hour or so before it’s stored again for the next coronation.
The robe that Charles wore during the coronation, of a deep scarlet hue, was previously worn by his grandfather King George VI.
The ceremony will now proceed with the enthronement of the king, at the theatre of the coronation.
Over 2,000 influential people from all over the world are in attendance, including European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and Maltese President George Vella.
