Watch: Nine Dead And Around 2,700 Injured In Massive Coordinated Pager Explosion In Lebanon And Syria
Reportedly well over 2,700 pagers exploded simultaneously around Lebanon and Syria resulting in nine confirmed deaths, while many others are grievously injured. Among the deceased are two Hezbollah members and a little girl.
Surreal CCTV footage circling the internet captured the exact moments the pagers went off yesterday late-afternoon. The injured were promptly rushed to nearby hospitals which quickly reached full capacity. A widespread panic ensued with many claiming the accident to be a coordinated attack.
Shia Islamist political party and paramilitary group, Hezbollah, accused Israel of committing the act, primarily due to tensions between the group and the nation throughout the years. Their claim is also supported by their statement that the alleged attack could’ve been a response to a supposed assassination attempt by the militia on an Israeli official.
Tensions continue to rise between both groups, prompting international intervention at the concern that the Israeli-Palestinian war could escalate further and reach neighbouring lands.
On top of this, the manufacturers of the pagers have been confronted and have since provided a statement. Gold-Apollo, a Taiwan based manufacturing company specialising in paging systems, were the providers of the pagers involved in the explosions.
Chief Executive of the company, Hsu Ching-Kuang denied any involvement in the accident and suggests that the alleged attacks could have been the work of an external company based in Beirut that has the licensing rights to the Gold-Apollo brand.
Upon further investigation of the exploded pagers, many noted the pagers were an outdated model compared to the company’s latest productions. Moreover, sources also note that the pagers were fitted with a remotely detonated explosive device near the battery, further strengthening the suspicions of a coordinated attack.
Hezbollah officials commented that the accident was “the biggest security breach” in a long time and have since deemed the act as “Israeli aggression” which would result in Israel “receiving a fair punishment.”
Israel officials have yet to comment on the events, despite this, many have taken to the internet to praise the nation for the act and justifying the actions against those involved.
