British anti-monarchy groups Republic and No More Royals came together in London’s Trafalgar Square to protest King Charles’ imminent Coronation.

Police were seen arresting upset anti-monarchists and loading a van full of “Not My King,” banners amid attempts to spoil a peaceful protest by thousands of Republic demonstrators.

Around 2,000 people were expected to show up with around 1,000 people having already joined in protest to the existence of the monarchy.

The anti-monarchy groups were able to protest at the Coronation, confirmed British security minister Tom Tugendhat.

However, the protestors were warned of new laws that ban “serious disruption” after it became known that one of the groups planned a demonstration on the Coronation route.

As crowds began to grow chants of “Not My King” could be heard from the protestors, followed by boos and rivaling chants of “God Save The King.”

The Metropolitan Police have stated a number of arrests have been made and some are being held “ on suspicion of breaching the public peace”.
