Pete Buttigieg could be the next President of the United States, and he’s half Maltese. Appearing in an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, he discusses why he’s planning on running for presidency in the upcoming 2020 elections.
He’s certainly a guy to be looking out for, and it’s not only because he’s got a Maltese surname (jiġġifieri wieħed minn tagħna). He’s articulate, centred, and very certain that climate change is a real thing that we need to start dealing with, like, yesterday.
He’s basically exactly like the current American President.

Like all Maltese descendants, he started small. He’s currently the mayor of a city with just 100,000 residents (which is about a fifth of the Maltese population) and his next career move is to be the leader of the free world. It’s quite the jump, perhaps, but Buttigieg seems confident that he can take it on.
In the show that receives mostly positive reviews and incredible outreach for everything that it produces, Buttigieg was able to show off his charm and charisma. He discusses his war experience, the economy, and climate change. As the “youngest guy in the race” for candidacy for presidential election, he views these contemporary issues as his own personal issues.
The 37-year-old war veteran and mayor of South Bend, Indiana explained that he’s set up an exploratory committee to help determine whether he should run for an elected office. So, really, the process is still in early stages – but we’re definitely vouching for him.
And we’re not the only ones. The response that the video of his interview received online is hugely positive. Many describe him as likeable and articulate, as he moves beyond simple ideology and instead focuses on issues that really matter; like climate change.
