‘A Terrible Mess’: National Book Council President Hits Out At Julia Farrugia Portelli And ‘Her Seven Idiots’ Leading Malta’s Weed Reform

A week after parliamentary secretary of reforms Julia Farrugia Portelli seemed to have implied that recreational drug users are non-achievers, Labour Party members are still critising her over her work to reform laws surrounding cannabis. This time, Labour Delegate and President of the National Book Council, Mark Camilleri, has also come out criticising Farrugia Portelli.

“Alcohol is worse than cannabis – and that is a scientific fact”, Camilleri said, arguing for a liberalised model for cannabis.

“Malta’s biggest killer illegal drug is heroin. All the friends I have from my generation have at least one friend who died of heroin and others who had their lives ruined by it.”

“Most of these men and women who overdosed on heroin had smoked cannabis before starting heroin, but the absolute majority of cannabis users lead normal lives and have never tried heroin.”

While Mr. Camilleri made his arguments in support of legalisation, he was equally very critical of the parliamentary secretary Julia Farrugia Portelli… and “her seven idiots leading the reform”.

“The incompetent and non-qualified team of pseudo-experts who are leading the cannabis-legalisation reform.”

“You can’t actually introduce a harm-reduction cannabis-legalisation model when scientific studies are still debating whether cannabis is actually harmful,” Camilleri continued.

“What you’re actually doing is, in short, a terrible mess.”

Camilleri harshly criticised Ms. Farrugia Portelli’s cannabis legislation reform, going on to say that she might very well be “implementing it without any proper scientific guidance”.

Camilleri said that “Countries all over the Western world are racing to legalise it in order to tap unto the economic benefits of this huge market,” Camilleri went on.

“Meanwhile, in Malta, cannabis-legalisation reform is being led by pseudo-experts who don’t know anything about cannabis and know even less about economics.”

“It’s shocking and even scandalous for a mall country like ours to have this great economic opportunity thrown away by pseudo-experts who are either campaigning against legalisation or actually form part of Julia’s team.”

“We need an open-market because a consumer is much better able to understand what is good for him or her than Julia’s seven idiots.”

“We need a free-market for cannabis cultivation and production which can possibly save Malta’s agriculture industry (90% of Malta’s agricultural land is unused) and actually save our country from over-development.”

He also made reference “to the taboo and the mud-slinging being thrown at cannabis users, especially after they were described by the honourable Minister as ‘non-achievers’.”

Mark Camilleri’s post was made a few hours after Ms. Farrugia Portelli posted on her page praising the Icelandic Model at conference organised by the European Cities Against Drugs.

Julia Farrugia Portelli has been under fire by many Labour Party members for her supposedly conservative stance on cannabis legalisation.
