Adrian Delia Takes Decision On His Nationalist Party Salary

Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia has put to bed concerns he will be taking a salary from the PN, confirming with Lovin Malta he has no immediate plans to do so.

This means Delia will, like his predecessor Simon Busuttil, only earn a €43,000 honorarium from Parliament for his role as Opposition leader.

Delia had raised eyebrows during a recent interview with Lovin Malta when he refused to rule out taking a wage from the PN.

“I think there is nothing at all untoward about someone receiving a salary for a full-time job,” he said “We need to be transparent in politics, but what’s the point of giving gestures simply to give off an impression? I appreciate that previous leaders refused a salary when the party’s finances were what they were, but there’s nothing wrong in me taking a salary if we manage to create new income streams and balance the party’s finances.”

The admission became even more controversial after MaltaToday reported the PN and its media station Media.Link are drowning in debts amounting to some €25 million.

Although Delia has refused to confirm or deny those reports, he has now admitted the PN’s financial situation does not currently permit him to take a salary.
