Adrian Delia’s Supporters Plan Show Of Force For Embattled Leader Ahead Of Showdown With MPs
Supporters of Adrian Delia will rally outside Dar Ċentrali this evening while the Opposition leader is convening with MPs inside the PN headquarters to discuss his future.
A Facebook group called ‘We Tesserati Are United Behind Our Leader’ has been set up to encourage supporters of Delia to turn up this evening.
“This evening we are all going to meet at Dar Ċentrali at 7pm to show support for Kap!” a group administrator said. “It’s very important we show our force! Please come and tell all your trusted friends to join us! We need to show these rebels that we have had enough!!”
Other supporters confirmed their attendance tonight and pledged to spread the word among other PN-supporting friends, while some urged the supporters not to cause trouble.
“Certain derogatory messages are reaching MPs’ ears and it’s coming off as though we’re being divisive,” one woman said. “Please, for the sake of the party and our beloved leader. Have courage, friends. It’s important that you attend tonight, but don’t forget that if we want to win, we need to bring those who aren’t loyal to our leader on our side.”
Some struck a more pessimistic tone, with one supporters gloomily noting: “We will never win, no matter who is there [tonight].”
The PN parliamentary group will convene tonight to discuss the way forward for the party in light of last month’s disastrous showing at the MEP and local council elections. At a parliamentary group meeting last week, several MPs were extremely critical of Delia and his leadership team, with many even calling for his resignation. However, the Opposition leader has repeatedly argued that PN members have entrusted him to lead the party into the upcoming general election.
Tonight’s meeting comes a day after a heated executive committee meeting, which culminated with the resignation of PN media chief Pierre Portelli, who had backed Delia since the start of his leadership campaign two years ago.
