Budget 2026: Clyde Caruana Announces No New Tax Increases

No new taxes. No tax hikes. That’s the big promise Finance Minister Clyde Caruana just dropped ahead of Budget 2026.

Speaking on Insights on TVM+, Caruana said the government can afford to give people a break thanks to what he called Malta’s fastest economic growth in the EU.

Pressed on the point, he doubled down: no fresh taxes and no increases. Simple as that.

The Finance Minister explained that Malta’s strong growth means the government can keep supporting people without introducing extra burdens. While other countries are raising taxes to balance the books, Malta is staying put (at least for another year).

With Budget 2026 set to be unveiled in October, Clyde Caruana has insisted there is “no need” for new taxes and pledged that subsidies and support will continue, though the full details remain to be seen.
