The Nationalist Party rallied in Ħal Għargħur following the vote of no confidence in the elected mayor, Helen Gauci.

“Thank you for coming to Għargħur to voice your concerns against tyranny,” said Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech.

The Nationalist Party took to social media to express its views regarding these events saying: “In an orchestrated anti-democratic move by Robert Abela and the administration of the Labour Party, through a vote of no confidence in the elected mayor Helen Gauci, the Labour Party did not care for the votes made by the people of Għargħur and is going against the wish of the majority in order to have control.”

The Nationalist Party rallied the people in Għargħur and the leader of the Nationalist Party, Bernard Grech, along with other members of the party addressed the people who came together for the rally.

When addressing the “Rally for Democracy”, Grech insisted that a new election should take place so that the people of Għargħur get a say in who will lead the local council.

“Today we met here in Għargħur, not to address activity of the Nationalist Party, but to first and foremost, express solidarity with the people of Għargħur and to show our support to the principle of democracy which we believe in so much. Six years ago, Għargħur chose Helen to be its mayor. Helen together with the councillors from the two parties, served the people of Għargħur for five years,” said Grech.

Grech continued to say that “On 8th June 2024, the people of Għargħur re-elected Helen as mayor. This was a choice of the people of Għargħur who were satisfied with her work and that of her colleagues, and re-elected her as mayor.”
