‘Enough Is Enough’: PN’s Youth Branch Demands For Political Responsibility To Be Shouldered

The Nationalist Party’s very public meltdown has continued, after MŻPN, the party’s youth wing, called for political responsibility to be shouldered in the wake of an abysmal showing in two national elections and an MP’s dubious co-option that has since been postponed.

“Enough is enough, and we demand that political responsibility be shouldered,” MŻPN said in a Facebook post. “At least out of respect for the thousands of voters and volunteers who gave their time, faith and effort – by those involved in the mess emanating from last Saturday’s vote in the Executive Committee.”

“We must stand up to be counted – not just when the going is easy, but especially and more importantly when the going gets tough”

The MZPN’s statement comes after Delia blamed the “establishment” for derailing the political trajectory of the embattled party in the follow-out of Jean Pierre Debono’s co-option to Parliament

Debono, a Delia-loyalist, was narrowly elected in a secret vote within the PN’s Executive Committee, beating out Gozitan Kevin Cutajar by 42 votes to 40.

The co-option has since been postponed, after several party figures, including the former president of the Executive Committee Mark Anthony Sammut, took serious issue with the voting procedure that took place.

PN MP Jason Azzopardi has gone one step further, accusing Debono of having committed fraud, after David Camilleri was found to have voted without having the right to do so.

“Do they really have the courage to say that nobody is bigger than the party? Have they any shame in speaking of the ‘establishment’? OUT.”

Other MPs like Therese Comodini Cachia and Claudette Buttigieg have also shared similar Facebook quotes calling for the end of “lies, deceit and shady behaviour”

“We deserve better. PN deserves better. #Malta deserves better.”

It remains to be seen how this week will develop. However, with a growing rebellion within the party’s ranks Delia may face an actual leadership challenger, should someone ever pluck up the courage to do so.
