Former PN candidate David Thake has confirmed he has no intention of filing a police report into his suggestion that businessman Yorgen Fenech had offered the PN €50,000 to ensure MEP David Casa was not reelected.

“The police already have documented information which shows that Yorgen Fenech was going to bribe Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri over the power station contract through the company 17 Black,” Thake said. “What have the police done with this information? Have they prosecuted Fenech, Mizzi or Schembri?”

“I will protect my source. They are courageous people and I won’t throw them under the bus. Those with a mind can weigh up all the facts we already know about friendships, visits and everything that David Casa went through and reach their own logical conclusions.”

Fenech was last year revealed to be the owner of 17 Black, a Dubai company which was listed as a target client for the infamous Panama companies of Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi and the Prime Minister’s chief of staff Keith Schembri.

Thake challenged Opposition leader Adrian Delia with this allegation on Xarabank last night, stating that his source is reliable. The former vice mayor and NET radio host also claimed that PN MP Kristy Debono and PN media head Pierre Portelli were “close” to Fenech, an allegation that both party officials later denounced.

Delia categorically denied having any knowledge of Thake’s claims and urged him to report them to the police.

“If you need the Nationalist Party’s protection, then you’ll receive it,” he said. “You’ll find Adrian Delia behind you with full strength. I don’t have that information myself or I’d have taken immediate action and I urge you to take this action yourself because what you’re alleging could have criminal implications.”
