‘Għarb First’ – Former Councillor Comes Back To Haunt PN; Sliema Is Set To Retain Its PN Majority
A third party has finally got elected to the local council, with a former PN councillor coming back to haunt his former party.
Putting ‘Għarb First’ (Għarb L-Ewwel), David Agius Apap and Miriam Borg both won a place on the local council in the Gozitan locality, with former elected as Mayor of the village.
While the night has been defined by a series of victories for Labour, the PN is set kept hold of the Sliema local council. Graziella Attard Previ is the front runner for mayor.
The PN also managed to keep hold of Rabat (Gozo), Mġarr, and Ħal-Lija but lost its majorities in Għarb and San Ġwann.
The Labour counting agents in Naxxar seemed to be celebrating victory after victory, notably keeping hold of the hotly-contested Birkirkara.
The first two days of the counting of local council election vote has seen the PN also lose Valletta and St Paul’s Bay to Labour.
While not necessarily as hyped as the MEP elections, the loss of key localities will certainly put pressure on embattled PN Leader Adrian Delia.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has also taken to twitter to praise Labour’s consolidations and gains across the island.
The PL has also claimed majorities in the local councils of Kalkara, Paola, Gudja, and Rabat (Malta), Ħaz-Żabbar, Ħal Għaxaq, Pieta’, Fgura, Bormla, Xagħra, Marsaxlokk, and Sannat.
In local council elections counting day 2of3 @PL_Malta gains #SanGwann, holds all its councils, including #Birkirkara and #Msida marginals, consolidates vote throughout -JM
