‘Grazzi Robert’: Prime Minister’s Chief Of Staff Glenn Micallef Resigns

The Prime Minister’s chief of staff, Glenn Micallef, has resigned, posting a long status on social media thanking Robert Abela for the last four years.
“I appreciated every moment in this position which gave me the privilege and honour to work for Malta, the government and for you as prime minister,” Micallef wrote. “You had several challenges and together we worked as hard as possible to defeat them. A pandemic, the FATF greylisting, international crises caused from war, an influx of irregular migrants, inquiries, protests and more.”

Later in his post, Micallef explained how the termination had “always” been “planned”, saying he was “grateful for the opportunity and trust” but also “above all, personally satisfied” with his own work.
Employing within the OPM since 2020, Micallef was part of the team which led the Labour Party’s election campaigns both in 2022 and 2024. His resignation comes after Labour Party Affairs Deputy Leader, Daniel Micallef, also resigned, in the week that followed the MEP and Local Council Elections.
“If there were any people who in any way I hurt or lacked while exercising my duty, I apologise,” Micallef went on, also thanking his wife Nadine for “the indescribable support.”
Meanwhile, Colonel Mark Mallia, a graduate in law and business management at the University of Malta who served as the AFM deputy commander and then led Identity Malta and was also appointed Transport Malta CEO, has appointed head of secretariat at the Office of the Prime Minister.
