Cardboard cutouts of Minister of the Economy Chris Cardona, Minister for Tourism Konrad Mizzi, and Office of the Prime Minister Chief of Staff Keith Schembri have appeared near Castille, near bars in Gżira and near businesses related to the men on the eight month anniversary of slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder.

Il-Kenniesa, the protest group behind the cutouts, said they couldn’t believe they were still protesting against these “criminals who should be in prison”.

“Minister of Brothels, Minibars and Mafia, hanging out in Gzira this morning,” they said alongside the image of Minister Cardona in Gżira. “Let’s make one thing clear, dropping the case against Daphne Caruana Galizia is a loss for the people, his whereabouts which are in that envelope are in the interest of the whole country. Our taxes are not paid to have sleaze in government.”

While Minister Cardona is portrayed in the nude, with just an envelope covering his nether region, Minister Mizzi and Schembri are portrayed in orange boiler suits and handcuffs. All three men were a focus in the recent Daphne Project, which is a project by international journalists to continue reporting the stories that Ms Caruana Galizia was looking into.

The cutouts were accompanied by various banners installed around Malta, featuring the words: ‘We will not be silenced. 8 months on.” A sign asking ‘Who Killed Daphne’ also appeared outside the Maltese embassy in Greece.

A vigil will be held this evening near the makeshift memorial in front of the Law Courts in Valletta this evening in memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
