How Is Robert Abela Going To Make The Difficult Decisions Now? Evarist Bartolo Asks After Election Result

Former Labour Minister Evarist Bartolo has cast doubt on Prime Minister Robert Abela’s ability to take difficult decisions since he cannot afford to lose more votes.

“If he didn’t take these decisions after the 2022 election when he was much stronger and could afford to lose votes, how will he take them now before the 2027 election when he is a lot weaker?” Bartolo said.

This comes after Labour’s electoral victory was overshadowed by its huge loss of majority which dropped from 42,000 to 8,500 within five years.

“After the Phyrric victory that he had in the 8th June election, the prime minister is saying that he’s going to start taking difficult decisions on issues like the destruction of the environment, how many foreigners come to Malta and work here, the exaggerated amount of buildings, the tables and chairs placed on roads by restaurants, the economy we are going to have that will be of long-term benefit to the country – problems that have been accumulating for years,” he wrote on Facebook with an accompanying photo of cranes in Spinola.

“The prime minister didn’t start making these necessary decisions after the 2022 election when he was stronger and could afford losing votes, instead he made some problems worse or let them get worse causing the election result of Saturday) how will he take them before the 2027 election when he is much weaker and can hardly afford to lose votes?”
