Jake Vella is an inspiration to many people… including, it seems, professional athletes. The young Maltese athlete acted as ambassador for the Super League Triathlon yesterday and was given the honour of shooting the gun to open the grand race.
Hundreds of the world’s top athletes flocked to Birgu in the heart of the Three Cities to tackle one of the toughest tests of strength and endurance around.
But it was honourary ambassador and Malta’s biggest inspiration, Jake Vella, who stole the attention (and hearts) of almost everyone there – both on the track and on the sidelines.
USA all-star athlete Katie Zaferes made her return to the triathlon scene and came in first place for her category.
However, she opted to bestow the trophy to the real MVP, our boy Jake.
Coming from an athlete of her calibre, as a woman who knows more than enough about strength and endurance, for Jake’s efforts to be recognised by Katie is a huge deal.
Luis Vincent, French winner of the male side of the event also stopped by to grab a quick snap with Jake.
And his biggest supporter to date, Fabio Spiteri, also dropped by to foster the feel good vibes.
