Meet The Four Key Appointments Driving Alex Borg’s PN Renewal

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg has unveiled four major appointments that he says will “unite, strengthen and modernise” the PN ahead of the next general election.
The changes, announced during a lively Independence Day Q&A with young voters in Valletta, include the creation of two brand-new roles – a party CEO and a Leadership Delivery Office chair – as well as the return of experienced strategists to key positions.
Here are the four figures at the heart of Borg’s reform plan:
Sabine Agius Cabourdin – PN’s First-Ever CEO
Property and commercial lawyer Sabine Agius Cabourdin takes on the historic role of the Nationalist Party’s first Chief Executive Officer, a post Borg promised during his leadership campaign to bring professional, business-style management to the party.
Holding dual Maltese and French citizenship, Agius Cabourdin is also a committed philanthropist. She founded the Fidem Foundation in 2018 to support vulnerable women with education and mental health resources, serves as president of the BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation, and is an active member of the Malta Women’s Lobby.
Accepting the job, she acknowledged the PN’s financial difficulties and made clear that stabilising the party’s accounts will be her first priority, including delivering Borg’s pledge to publish audited accounts within his first 100 days. Borg said the appointment reflects his determination to increase women’s participation in politics, noting that the idea came after he observed the absence of women in a recent meeting with Prime Minister Robert Abela.
Simon Mizzi – Chair of the Leadership Delivery Office
Engineer Simon Mizzi will lead the newly created Leadership Delivery Office, a unit designed to track the PN’s promises and ensure they are met.
Mizzi, who recently suffered the tragic loss of his young son Noah, was praised by Borg for the strength and discipline he brings to the role. The office will function as an internal watchdog, keeping both the leader and the party accountable to voters as preparations for the next election intensify.
Simon Vella Gregory – Campaign Manager
Former PN communications coordinator Simon Vella Gregory returns as the party’s Campaign Manager, taking charge of electoral strategy and organisation.
A veteran NET journalist, Vella Gregory stepped away from the PN in 2022 but is now back to help craft the message and ground game Borg hopes will deliver victory. His brief is clear: keep the party “prepared, strong and united” in the run-up to the next general election.
Damien Spiteri – Head of Secretariat
Munxar mayor and auditor Damien Spiteri has been appointed Head of Alex Borg’s Secretariat, the post responsible for the day-to-day running of the Opposition leader’s office.
With a background in both auditing and local government, Spiteri brings organisational skill and grassroots experience that will help drive Borg’s agenda of internal renewal and outreach to voters.
These appointments mark the most significant internal shake-up since Borg became Opposition leader earlier this month. By blending new structures, experienced operators, and a deliberate push for female leadership, Borg aims to show that the PN is not only ready for the next election but also serious about delivering on its promises.
