MEP Alfred Sant Gets Glowing Endorsement From Nationalist Rival: ‘He Has Extraordinary Energy!’
Former Prime Minister and current Labour MEP Alfred Sant has been urged to seek re-election to the European Parliament by none other than one of his Nationalist adversaries – PN MEP candidate Peter Agius!
“Dr Sant had spearheaded the movement against Malta’s EU membership and many pro-Europeans like myself have mixed feelings [about him],” Agius said. “However, after watching him firsthand in the European Parliament and in Malta as an MEP, I truly appreciate his extraordinary energy and ability to communicate the truth of the EU to our citizens. He also showed how capable he is in including Malta’s interests within lengthy dossiers packed with figures and technicalities.”
Agius worked at close quarters with Sant for many years, in his [Agius’] previous role as head of the European Parliament Information Office in Malta and current job as spokesperson for European Parliament President Antonio Tajani.
Sant is expected to decide whether or not to seek re-election to the European Parliament by the end of the week. The 70-year-old politician said that he has to consider his age but that it would be hard to ignore Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s recent public plea for him to seek re-election.
