‘Metsola And Peppi Were The Biggest Victims Of Misinformation’: Cyrus Engerer Breaks Down Election Campaigns

MEP Cyrus Engerer slammed labour, tribal politics and the national broadcaster in a candid breakdown of this electoral campaign, saving praise for a few independent candidates, Metsola, and even Bernard Grech and the PN.

Interestingly, he stated that disinformation started to “creep into our campaigns”, adding that European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and popular TV personality Peppi Azzopardi were the two main victims. He is presumably referring to the PL’s campaign.

He seemed disappointed to note that only eight out of 38 candidates are progressive while independent Conrad Borg Manche has shown his true colours by declaring he would join the “extreme conservatives far-right fascists ECR”.

Moving on to PN and PL, he was more critical of the latter’s party station, saying that “ONE TV excelled in alienating light red, light blue, and floaters” while NET TV “was more open” with “mediocre” quality”.

From here he deduced that many have been left feeling “politically orphaned”, pushing them to turn to independent candidates and small parties.

Engerer used this moment to also give his two cents on “the establishment”, saying it’s controlled by both PN and PL as together, “they control the Broadcasting Authority and the Electoral Commission among others”.

Finally, in his opinion, the candidates with the. best campaigns that “climaxed at the right time” were ironically those with the “lowes budgets”: independent Arnold Cassola and PL’s Thomas Bajada.

Do you agree with any of his hot takes?
