‘Monsters’: David Casa Calls Out Vitals Key Players For Directly Affecting Cancer Patients

PN MEP David Casa has called former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri and former Minister Konrad Mizzi “monsters” for their role in the Vitals Global Healthcare scandal, implying that the fraud and mismanagement surrounding the deal caused delays in the provision of essential healthcare for cancer patients in Malta.

The magisterial inquiry into the hospitals concession, published on Sunday morning by MaltaToday, has revealed that the availability and quality of healthcare services, including for cancer patients, were directly impacted by delays in setting up equipment involved in the treatment of cancer, among other conditions.

Casa took to social media to express his disdain with regards to the key players in the case, writing, “You have to be a monster to profit off cancer patients”.

“The Mafia cannot even begin to compare with these corrupt thieves. They are the real traitors.”

About a week ago, NGO Repubblika’s lawyer Jason Azzopardi uploaded a similar Facebook post, “Remember this: they also profited off cancer. Garbage”.

Casa also appealed to the public to read the 1200-page report, which explains that the Cyclotron project, intended to provide advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment, was marred by delays and financial irregularities, thereby failing to deliver timely and effective treatment options to seriously ill patients.

The project was intended to diagnose and treat cancer through radiation therapy. Over €2.3 million of concession funds were diverted to MTrace plc for the project.

Additionally, €4.3 million was obtained in the form of a soft loan from Malta Enterprise, supposedly for this project. Investigators noted that some transactions potentially represented misappropriation of public funds, false accounting and grant fraud.
