Nationalist Party Holds Second Protest Outside Parliament Amid Calls For Accountability
Hundreds gathered outside Parliament yesterday, answering the Nationalist Party’s call for a second protest in as many weeks.
In his speech, PN Leader Bernard Grech criticised the government, accusing it of perpetuating “a chain of abuse, theft, and fraud.”
Grech pointed to recent scandals involving ministers Clayton Bartolo and Clint Camilleri, pledging that a future Nationalist government would deliver “wealth for all” rather than “fraud for all.”
The protest followed Bartolo’s resignation as Tourism Minister amid allegations of misconduct, including suspicious payments to his wife.
The PN has intensified its calls for Camilleri to step down as well, alleging further misconduct.
Shadow Health Minister Adrian Delia also took to the stage, describing Monday’s court ruling on the hospitals concession as a “victory for the people.”
The court decision empowers the State Advocate to pursue €400 million linked to a controversial deal that the PN has challenged for six years. Delia promised continued efforts to reclaim what he called “the Maltese people’s money.”
Stef Formosa, a lecturer at MCAST, joined the lineup of speakers, slamming the government for its neglect of educators and students.
“The government found money for those around it but left MCAST educators and suspended students begging for their rights,” she said, calling the situation a blatant sign of disrespect.
Earlier in the day, Grech framed the protest as a “celebration of the people’s victory” in light of the court ruling. However, he made it clear that the fight is far from over, urging the crowd to stand united for further accountability and justice.
