NET Head Of Programmes Resigns After Five Years: ‘I Wanted To Do Something Different’

NET’s head of programmes Fabian Demicoli has confirmed a report by ONE that he has resigned after landing a new job in another field.

“I didn’t resign because I have issues with NET but because an opportunity arose and I wanted to do something new and different,” Demicoli told Lovin Malta.

Demicoli was appointed NET’s Head of News in August 2014 after six years working for Xarabank. Last year, he was given a new role as the Head of Programmes for the TV channel.

His resignation will come as a blow to the PN media, particularly since it was only two months ago that it lost its head of media Pierre Portelli.

In his resignation letter, Portelli said his tenure as media head has been rewarding but marred with daily struggles, in which he had to “firefight elements within the PN who insist they have a divine right to lead and control the party and its media platforms”.

Demicoli admitted that the timing of his departure, so soon after Portelli’s resignation, may not have been ideal but added that “it would never have been the right timing”.

He also confirmed he intends to remain active in the media industry as a freelancer.

“I love media and journalism and I don’t intend to quit totally,” he said. “I just don’t want it to be my full-time job at the moment.”
