Karl Stagno Navarra, the infamous host of Pjazza, has landed the post of spokesperson for the country’s national airline, Air Malta.

While Stagno Navarra will resign from his other government consultancy host, he will still keep his place on the Labour Party’s showpiece propaganda show.

Pjazza has gained notoriety for Stagno Navarra’s daily stinging criticism of the Nationalist Party, often with government ministers as his guests.

Stagno Navarra, Air Malta told Malta Today, was selected for the post Head of Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility after a public call.

“There will always be a distinction between party and government, my TV show has been running for almost four years… I just an express an opinion, but when it comes to official business I never was or will be political,” Stagno Navarra told the same newsroom.

It is unclear what his remuneration will be, with Air Malta saying it is consistent with the airline’s salary grades. There have been claims that this could be as much as €90,000 per year.

Stagno Navarra, who first emerged in the political scene under the PN banner, has served roles in the Transport Malta and the Office of the Prime Minister under the current administration.

His financial position has been subject to criticism in the past after a government gazette revealed that Stagno Navarra’s landlord issued a warrant over unpaid rent.
