One Year On: Roberta Metsola Reflects On Re-Election As European Parliament President
Roberta Metsola is reflecting on a major milestone, her re-election as President of the European Parliament one year ago.
Taking to social media, Metsola shared a video of her speech right after she was confirmed for a second term, with a message focused on unit and hope.
“Together, we must stand up for the politics of hope, for the dream that is Europe. I want people to recapture a sense of belief and enthusiasm for our project,” said Metsola as she addressed the House after being re-elected.
“A belief to make our shared space safer, fairer, more just and more equal. A belief that together we are stronger and we are better. A belief that ours is a Europe for all.”
She won the election in the first round of voting, during which she received an absolute majority of 562 votes cast out of 699 by secret paper ballot, among two candidates.
Since re-election, Metsola will continue to serve for a total of two and a half years of the 10th legislative term.
