The Nationalist Party has called out Minister of Finance Clyde Caruana for allegedly dodging their questions regarding the exorbitant monthly pay that MFSA’s former Irish CEO is still receiving.

The Shift News revealed that the Malta Financial Services Authority’s former Chief Executive of Services, Joseph Gavin is still being paid around €‎11,000 monthly.

They further reported that, by March 2023, he would be given around €65,000 for a handover to the new CEO.

The opposition party subsequently questioned Caruana, asking why he is still being paid “thousands a month from the people’s money”.

They further asked for the publication of the contract Gavin is subject to, for the sake of “transparency”.

Nonetheless, Caruana has refused to answer these questions. Similarly, despite The Shift’s request for Gavin’s contracts through the Freedom of Information Act, the publication of such documents were denied with the explanation that the information was already given in parliament.

However, the Caruana’s refusal to answer the opposition’s questions regarding the matter indicates otherwise.

“The Nationalist Party notes how the Minister of Finance is not ashamed to send you to get the 10 cents of plastic bottles and then goes and spends your money,” PN MP Jerome Caruana Cilia said.

“Transparency demands that the people’s money is used appropriately and with absolute transparency and not in waste and concealment.”
