PN Leader Marks Daphne Caruana Galizia’s 55th Birthday With Call For Public Inquiry
Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia has used the occasion of what would have been Daphne Caruana Galizia’s 55th birthday to call for a public inquiry into whether her assassination could have been prevented.
“Today Daphne Caruana Galizia would have turned 55,” Delia tweeted. “The mastermind/s of her assassination are still at large. Government has failed to start a public inquiry ignoring the appeal of the opposition, civil society & other respected bodies. We will continue to seek truth and justice.”

The government has so far resisted calls for a public inquiry into whether Caruana Galizia’s murder could have been prevented, arguing that it could clash with the ongoing criminal investigation into who masterminded her murder.
However, after the Council of Europe gave Malta three months to open a public inquiry, Foreign Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said the government will respect its demand.
Delia and Caruana Galizia had an acrimonious relationship, with the late journalist accusing him of laundering money from a Soho prostitution ring in the early 2000s and urging the PN not to elect him as its leader. On his part, Delia sued Caruana Galizia for libel on multiple occasions, derided her as a “biċċa blogger” and accused her of wanting to maintain her “control” of the PN.
After Caruana Galizia was killed in a car bomb in October 2017, Delia apologised to the late journalist’s family for his comments but his apology was promptly rejected.
