Several politicians and figure heads have spoken out on former Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo’s recent resignation.

Former MEP Cyrus Engerer stated the people are “fed up” with leadership based on “stubbornness”.

“Leadership isn’t about being a human boomerang – making the wrong choice every time and doubling back when the damage is done,” said Engerer on Instagram.

The ADPD have also reacted to the resignation, welcoming the decision Bartolo has made to step down, stating this is something which should have taken place long before.

Stating they were one of the first to demand his resignation, the ADPD’s chair Sandra Gauci had stressed on the importance of exemplary behaviour in their leadership, and making use of public funds transparently.

“There is a need for accountability and people who are truly capable of doing the work they signed up for,” Gauci had stated.

PN MP Alex Borg also shared his thoughts on social media, questioning why Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri has not yet followed in Bartolo’s path of stepping down from the role.

“The conclusions of the Commissioner of Standards were clear and apply to both Ministers, and not just for one. The people are clearly showing that the rules should apply to everyone. After all, the chair is loaned to us by the people,” stated Borg.

Bartolo has officially been kicked out of the Labour Party’s Parliamentary group, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg will be filling his role.
