Prime Minister Reassigns Tourism Duties Following Clayton Bartolo’s Resignation
Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced a reshuffle in Cabinet responsibilities following the resignation of Clayton Bartolo as Minister for Tourism.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Ian Borg will now also oversee the tourism sector.
This decision is based on the interconnected nature of foreign affairs and the tourism sector, particularly regarding Malta’s focus on quality and the unique needs of smaller nations.
Tourism is a vital pillar of Malta’s economy, and the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum in the industry following Bartolo’s departure.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield, previously responsible for public cleanliness, will retain his duties but will transition to the Ministry for the Environment, Energy, and Public Cleanliness under Minister Miriam Dalli.
In addition, Minister Owen Bonnici, who leads the Ministry for National Heritage, Arts, and Local Government, will now also assume responsibility for the film sector.
Clayton Bartolo resigned earlier this week following a report by the Standards Commissioner that revealed allegations of misuse of ministerial powers and new revelations about an alleged kickback to his wife Amanda Muscat.
