Rabat Mayor Takes Cryptic Dig At Labour Party: ‘I Was Squeezed Dry Like A Lemon’
Left: Rabat mayor Charles Azzopardi, Right: Prime Minister Joseph Muscat
Rabat mayor Charles Azzopardi has issued a subtle swipe at the Labour Party, stating on Facebook that they “squeezed me dry like a lemon and then discarded me”.
“Perhaps it’s because I’m not a kiss-ass or an opportunist, perhaps its because I come from a family of workers, perhaps because I’m a mere number, perhaps it’s because I gave testimony that wasn’t empty words,” Azzopardi wrote. “What I am certain of is that I was squeezed dry like a lemon and then discarded by a party that has now become a movement. However, I am proud that I was never bought and that I never became part of the clique. I was a man of the people, an indebted son of a worker, and will remain so until I die.”
Azzopardi pledged to expose the motive behind his Facebook post, hinting that it has to do with certain people who harmed him 14 years ago and are still attempting to do him wrong till this day.
“If I stay silent, my omertà will shame me and my descendants will be ashamed of me,” he said.
