Roberta Metsola Rules Out PN Leadership Race As She Stays Focused On European Parliament Duties

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has shut down speculation that she would contest for the leadership of the Nationalist Party following the resignation of its leader earlier this week.
In a heartfelt and determined statement shared earlier today, Metsola confirmed she will not be putting her name forward, insisting her full commitment must remain with her role as European Parliament President.
Metsola said that while leading the Nationalist Party and Malta as Prime Minister would be the greatest honour for any politician, this moment is not about personal ambition but about responsibility.
She spoke of the global challenges facing Europe and Malta, including military tensions, economic uncertainty, and critical decisions on investment and jobs, stressing that now is not the time to divide her focus.
The PN MEP pledged her full support to whoever takes up the role of Nationalist Party leader, promising to assist in any way needed to help the party strengthen, win the next general election, and “save our country”.
Metsola acknowledged that her decision may be criticised or manipulated by many including political opponents but said she will continue fighting to show the best Malta has to offer.
“I will always be there for our Party and for our country, as I have always been since my youth,” she said.
