Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi has replied to Opposition MP Jason Azzopardi’s warning that some of Malta’s Cabinet members  are still using their personal emails for official work.

“The email address indicated in the Parliament website was listed prior to Hon Zrinzo Azzopardi’s appointment as Parliamentary Secretary,” the issued statement reads. “A cursory look at other MP’s contact details clearly shows that MPs use the email address of their choice.”

“Kindly note that instructions have been issued to the parliament staff to update the email address accordingly,” the reply concludes.

Zrinzo Azzopardi’s reply comes after Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services Clayton Bartolo rectified any discrepancies with his contact details published on the Maltese Parliament’s website.

“Once this issue was brought to my attention, I immediately asked the Parliament’s IT office to amend my details and I was informed that these were immediately rectified,” Bartolo told Lovin Malta yesterday evening.

Ever since the National Audit Office flagged the practice five years ago, the issue of Cabinet members using their personal emails for official work has been a point of political contention for the last half a decade. Over the years, everyone from individual MPs to former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has been roped into the debate.
