“Welcome to being a highly opinionated woman in politics,” she told her followers. 

“Unfortunately it’s usually women who are targeted in this way, sexualised and seen as pieces of meat.”

Cutajar and Borg Bonello stand on opposite sides of the political aisle. Recently, Borg Bonello called for Cutajar’s resignation following a onslaught of leaked WhatsApp chats exposing a deep connection between the PL MP and alleged murderer Yorgen Fenech.

Since then, Borg Bonello has doubled down on this call for Cutajar to resign – but has also expressed her wish that the public would focus on political wrongdoings rather than attacking politicians for alleged issues in their private lives.

This example proves an unfortunate reality. Some members of the public are not heeding that message at all – going so far as to sexualise two powerful women whilst entirely disregarding the important political issues which need to be addressed .
