Students Organise Peaceful Protest In Solidarity With ‘Vilified’ Maltese Judiciary
Maltese students have organised a peaceful protest in solidarity with the judiciary that has been “vilified” and “pitted against the people” this past week.
“Join several student organisations tonight at 8pm in front of the Courts in Valletta to show solidarity with the judiciary and to show that you believe in the rule of law,” GħSL wrote on social media.
This comes amid rising political tensions on the island with Prime Minister Robert Abela taking several jabs at different democratic institutions, undermining their credibility.
He attacked the judiciary by claiming that magistrate Gabriella Vella concluded the Vitals inquiry purposely to disrupt the European Parliament and local council elections.
While yesterday, he diverted his energy to Malta’s press, accusing them of being part or influenced by the “establishment” which, in his eyes is Malta’s watered-down big brother – i.e. the entity that is always pulling the strings and calling the shots.
The political situation in Malta is coming to a boiling point and these students are not accepting the way the prime minister has handled it.
So far, the organisations involved are:
GħSL
KSU
SDM
ESA
MIRSA
SHS
MKSA
JEF Malta
KNŻ
MBSA
ICTSA
