European Parliament President Roberta Metsola thanked the European Union and US President Donald Trump for their efforts at the Alaska summit.

“The way forward for Ukraine must be sustainable peace. The European Parliament welcomes President Trump’s efforts and engagement with European leaders, ahead of Monday’s meeting with President Zelemsky at the White House. The goal is clear: lasting peace built on strong, credible security guarantees. For Ukraine and for Europe,” wrote Metsola on X. 

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on August 15, 2025, at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. The summit highlighted the value of transatlantic unity in addressing global security challenges as the two leaders tried to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine and discuss a ceasefire.

The meeting ended without any ceasefire deal or concrete agreement on Ukraine. Both leaders framed the talks as “productive,” but there were no substantive breakthroughs.
