‘The Faces Of The Establishment’: Repubblika’s Robert Aquilina Digs Up Photo Of Prime Minister And His Father
Former Repubblika President Robert Aquilina has weighed in on the “establishment”, digging up a photo of Prime Minister Robert Abela and his father, former President George Abela.
“We managed to find a photo of the faces of the establishment,” Aquilina wrote on social media, captioning a photo of Abela and his father.
“A dynasty of politicians who have been in key positions of power in Malta since 2009, with a leadership style typical of emperors.”
Yesterday, both Abela and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech called each other’s party the “establishment” during respective political rallies.
This comes amid rising political tensions following the conclusion of the Vitals Healthcare magisterial inquiry which Abela has dangerously dubbed “political terrorism” as well as the release of a list of money laundering suspects that named former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.
Rather than commenting on the contents of this list, Abela has taken issue with the timing of the conclusion of the inquiry. He’s alleged that magistrate Gabriella Vella concluded the inquiry over a month before the European Parliament and local council elections to sway the electorate away from the Labour Party.
Meanwhile, as soon it was known that the inquiry was concluded, Repubblika submitted a written request to the Attorney General to be given a full copy but received no response.
“After receiving no response, we submitted another request. This was not answered either. We didn’t even receive an acknowledgment,” the organisation wrote in a statement.
“Therefore, this morning we submitted an official letter to the Court, through Lawyer Jason Azzopardi, for the Attorney General to send us a full copy of the report of this inquiry.”
“We remind you that this inquiry was carried out at the request of Repubblika in 2019 and we note that the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice were given a copy. We understand that this behavior goes against the provisions of the Constitution and the European Convention for Human Rights.
“Repubblika will take further steps if our request continues to be ignored.”
What do you think the inquiry will reveal?
