‘The People Will Win’: Bernard Grech Calls For Further Action After Bartolo Resigns
Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has shared a statement in reaction to Clayton Bartolo’s resignation as Tourism Minister, following weeks of controversy surrounding Bartolo’s abuse of power.
In a statement shared a few moments ago, Grech accused the government of taking “late and half-baked action,” saying that Bartolo’s resignation only came after immense public pressure.
“Today we had another U-turn, and Clayton Bartolo gave in to the pressure and left as Minister,” Grech wrote.

However, Grech made it clear that Bartolo stepping down is not enough. “Apart from having to return all €70,000, Robert Abela has an obligation to immediately remove Clint Camilleri, who is guilty of fraud and cover-up.”
Grech credited the resignation to public unity against what he described as the government’s “wrongdoing” and called for continued collective efforts.
“Events like today happened only because the people united against the fraud of Robert Abela and his government. I encourage us to continue to unite as one people together to see that there is a new government that stops this fraud. The people will surely win.”
Clayton Bartolo officially stepped down earlier today, weeks after a Standards Commissioner report revealed he had given his wife a consultancy role she did not fulfil.
Bartolo’s apology at the time, where he stated “no one is perfect,” did little to quell calls for his resignation.
The MP, who will now serve as a Labour backbencher, reportedly submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Robert Abela following discussions held over the past two days.
