Von Der Leyen Faces No Confidence Vote Amid Criticism

On Thursday, the European Parliament is anticipated to vote no confidence against European Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen.
During Monday’s parliamentary debate, it became clear that the motion is unlikely to pass as the major parties declared they would not vote in favour of the motion. Nonetheless, many of the party members criticised von der Leyen’s leadership style.
The EPP declared that it would not support the motion because it did not want to support members who wanted to create schisms in the European Union. With that being said, the EPP still criticised von der Leyen for saying she did not keep her word on the Green Deal. This view was also shared by parties such as Renew Europe and the Greens/EFA.
These parties have declared that they will not be voting in favour, however, they did not declare that they will be voting against. This could mean that there is a possibility of the parties allowing their members to abstain.
