WATCH: 31 Maltese Women Are About To Enter The World Of Politics Thanks To This Labour Initiative
Labour’s Lead program, headed by MEP Miriam Dalli, has welcomed a total of 31 new recruits to the initiative that hopes to provide the necessary insight for women hoping to begin a career in politics.
Announced during a press conference this morning at the Labour Party’s headquarters, PL president Daniel Micallef highlighted the party’s goals of gender parity.
Lead, set up in July of 2017 on the tailwinds of the general election, is part of Labour’s 10-year plan to ensure that by 2027 half of their electoral candidates will be women.
Already, 84% of women who have taken part in the program have gone on to contest local council elections and have been elected.
Labour unveiled plans to increase the number of female MPs in parliament earlier this year, but the figure still sits well below the EU average.
