Opposition leader Adrian Delia was accosted by the sister of Daphne Caruana Galizia this morning as he laid a wreath in honour of the murdered journalist in Valletta.

To mark the two-year anniversary since Caruana Galizia’s murder, Delia and several PN MPs visited the Great Siege Monument in Valletta, which is often used as a makeshift memorial to Caruana Galizia.

However, Caruana Galizia’s sister Helene Asciak was already setting up the memorial and wasn’t pleased to see the Opposition leader and his team.

“Go away from me please,” she told him. “Let me have five minutes here setting up the memorial. Please step back. Can you please step back? Can you please have some respect? You are doing it for your cameras.”

As Delia moved to place the wreath down, Asciak stepped in front of him and told him to pay his respects in court and at the police station.

“You have absolutely no respect,” she told them. “Shame on you, bunch of crooks.”

And as Delia placed the wreath down and stepped back, Asciak promptly grabbed it and threw it onto the floor.

Prior to his election as PN leader, Daphne Caruana Galizia had accused Delia of laundering money from a Soho prostitution ring in the early 2000s, something Delia has vehemently denied. During his campaign, Delia mocked Caruana Galizia as an insignificant blogger and claimed she was only writing about his past business dealings because she was scared her “grip” over the PN would end with him in charge.
